Chapter 10 - The sparrow Takes Flight

The sun began its slow descent into the sea, painting the Caribbean sky in violent shades of violet, amber, and gold.
Clara walked down to the edge of the water, Barnaby trotting slowly but happily at her side, his paws kicking up sprays of white sand. She pulled the folded, water-stained note from her pocket—Arthur’s final letter—and opened it one last time.

She looked down at the old dog. He looked back at her with eyes that seemed to understand every trial they had survived, every tear that had fallen on that cold stone porch three weeks ago.
The family had called him a "useless dog." They had kicked him down the stairs. They had thought he was a worthless scrap of an inheritance meant to humiliate her.

Out in the bay, the *Sparrow* swung gently on its anchor, its brass fittings catching the last rays of the dying sun. The Vance name had not been destroyed by the greed of wolves. It had been reborn in the heart of a sparrow—and the unyielding loyalty of an old golden dog who knew that the greatest wealth in the world was never printed on paper, but written in blood, courage, and unconditional love.
